I'm glad to find there are others out there who took serious offence to what Joel Stein wrote, who are not right wing sheep. I am very surprised that I have seen such a relatively small amount of leftist bloggers piling up on Stein, for there really ought to be. As a proud leftist I pride myself on my ability to critically examine any statement and then apply my own personal moral, philosophical and political beliefs to creating my own opinion, as opposed to the opinion of some political party . I hate that crap!
Perhaps the only thing I hate more than blind party loyalty is when people take a controversial position on a subject just to be controversial. I think Joel has done that. There are soooo many other, much more profound, ways he could have made the point that the yellow sticker brigade is collectively dumb, but he chose not to do that. Keep up the good work.
Stein, despite what the pro-troopers describe as his wish to appear 'euridite and witty' (according to David Allen, a cardinal sin among scribes who accurately describe the troops in terms more germane to their real time bad acts) hit the nail squarely on the head. Although kids fresh out of their teens do comprise a a portion of active duty combat troops, the greatest number of them are in the age group 25 to 35, hardly naive and gullible victims of George Bush's lies, as Allen would have you believe.
David Allen must appease the troopheads because it wouldn't be healthy to his bank account to do otherwise. Running a donar site committed not to open and honest debate, without the dampening effect of bannings and censorship but, rather, to manipulating as many recurring charge contributions into his accounts as possible without appearing too damn obvious about it. His main source of income these days are necessarily- having alienated and run off the true progressives and liberals with his drooling allegiance to the troops, unequivical support of Israelism, and general disdain for real debate- coming from the pro-military contigent of the posting community barely indistinguishable from the twits who regularly post pro-troop sentiments at freerepublic. You can't say Allen doesn't know on what side his white bread is buttered. And man, the troopheads aren't reticent about ponying up the dough necessary to get their crypto-fascist cant to appear, protected and approved by Allen and his minions, on cash-starved Allen's website. It's entirely plausible that Allen is aware that he is giving aid and comfort to a philosophy disseminated and financially supported with rightwing moulah. Yes, David, won't you please tell the truth and confirm that right here right now? No? Then confirm this: you, your minions, and your resident conveyor of rightwing protroop rhetoric ( ' Pity Me' WillPitt) post with at least five usernames each in an effort to 1) make it appear that troophead sentiment is greater than it is and 2) to bolster your own postings which otherwise would remain barren of sympathetic replies. And you do this for money. The money of rightwing interest groups. Yes? Are you a prostitute or a true believer? I assume you're both. And do you still stand behind your recent assertion that half your membership is stupid? Probably the half that doesn't buy 'your love the warrior hate the war' bullshit. Right? Well, you just keep taking the money of the schutzstaffel, because that's what you do best. But, your site is on the wane and you know it and are doing everything in your power to milk the last dime out of your sincere and much exploited members with a true progressive bent while making prime space (unmolested by banning or censorship) available to the wingnuts with their praise for Bush's wermacht and those damnable recurring credit card contributions to your accounts.
Dude, where do you see any solicitation for donations?
I run this site out of my own pocket and do not take donations or ads. I have a sneaking suspicion that this is none other than John Dean, recently banned disrupter from my other site. Only he, or someone who thinks like him would make such obviously false statements about this site. Buh-bye!
Dude, tell me you're not the same David Allen who is the site developer of democratic underground and I will retract and apologise for those parts of my post relevant to your objections. Sincerely, St Just
To David Allen, the owner of this blog and not the bore who runs DU- I sincerely regret confusing you with Skinner of DU infamy. I had erroneously assumed, because I followed your link from DU, that you and he were one and the same. Which should be cause enough to offer the most needed apology ever offered in the history of the internet. Still disagree with your general support for the troops, but hey, gentlemen- and ladies, too- can disagree without invoking the censorship tactics of David 'Skinner' Allen and his crew. Glad you gave me the opportunity to make amends. Regards, St Just
"I don't think (soldiers) are necessarily bad people."
What, so like - it would be legitimate to assume that a good number of them are indeed bad people...just so long as we recognize that it's not a necessity to characterize all of them that way ? That line is as if he's saying, "yeah - most troops are bad people, but not all of them - just because they are troops doesnt mean they are necesarily bad people, even though for the most part this is true. We have to recognize that there are exceptions, and there exist at least a few troops who arent bad people". Idiot. Mororn. Buffoon. |
