Sunday, March 14. 2010"Satire"If Democrats want so badly to abort babies because of (healthcare costs), why are we bothering with someone who has a broken neck and back at 69? It sounds to me like she’s pretty well used up and has probably been living off the taxpayers for plenty of years to begin with. Aren’t we at least going to get a vote on it? The headline Technorati has given coverage of this controversy is, “Harry Reid's Wife Becomes Nexus Of Conservative Satire,” and while Matt Sussman objects to Riehl's poor taste, he tells the rest of us to "lighten up," because after all, it's just a blogpost and it's the weekend. Many conservatives have chimed in claiming that liberals are just deficient in humor because they object to Riehl’s stunningly mean-spirited comments. The posture adopted by many of these right wingers is that liberals who object just don’t understand that Riehl was joking. Oh, I see! That witty Dan Reihl was making a funny joke about the seriously injured wife of a politician he dislikes! I mean, i completely missed that part where he ascribed a hyperbolized position to Reid and used it as an excuse to dehumanize him and his family. Let me explain a little something about “satire.” It involves wit. it involves an ability to cast light on an issue using humor. It involves a level of effort and talent that goes far beyond merely using your disagreement with someone as an excuse for mocking his agony as he copes with a seriously injured family member. Saturday, March 6. 2010Saturday Morning Bottomfeeding: The Glenn Beck Show Takes on a Formidable Opponent -- the UninsuredFrom February 25 Glenn Beck’s Sidekick: You know the president started off with his address, essentially a long address laying out everything he’s been saying for the past year, one of the interesting parts of that being that he gets ten letters, Glenn, every night. from two year old girls; “I have no health care Mr. Pwesident…” See, this is funny because he’s doing an imitation of an unbearably cute two-year old. Sidekick: “…and I have no feet.” And she doesn’t have any feet! Isn’t that crazy? A two-year old double amputee? Never happens. Who ever heard of such a thing? And just imagine her trying to walk! While she says this stuff! Comedy gold! Sidekick: “…and no tonsils because doctors took ‘em out.” This is funny because, you see, it illustrates how stupid most of the complaints are from people going without health insurance. Complaining about being unable to afford badly needed reconstructive surgery, neurological rehab, insulin or dialysis is just like complaining because a doctor took your tonsils out! And yet people make these complaints all the time! That’s the value of truly well done comedy. It makes you laugh but it also makes you think. This skillful skewering of a powerful lobby continues on March 5. Glenn Beck: I received a cc copy of a letter, written…. This is the wind up. Beck and his Sidekick are skillfully telegraphing to their listeners that a joke is on its way, and they should be bracing themselves for an onslaught of irresistible hilarity. Beck: Yeah!. It’s from Herman Hogsnorkle… Herman Hogsnorkle! HOGsnorkle! Get it? Beck: It broke… This is very considerate. After all, somewhere out there are probably listeners who didn’t catch it the first time. But the whip-smart repartee is only beginning: Sidekick: How’s he doing? The Sidekick senses something truly funny is coming and can hardly contain himself. This is one of those touches that lets the fans know their idols are human too, kind of like Tim Conway cracking up Harvey Korman on the old Carol Burnett Show. Beck: No, well… (I suspect later on this guy was confronted in the corridor by a stern looking minion carrying a clipboard and saying “Do not, I repeat, do not step on Mr. Beck’s lines.) Beck: (doing an imitation of a querulous old man): Dear Mr. President, I have been denied healthcare. I am a 96-year-old Tuberculosis patient riddled with lung cancer from smoking 12 packs of Camel cigarettes a day… Can there be anything funnier than a 96-year-old chain smoker with wrecked lungs being denied healthcare? Beck: for 93 years… Yes, there can! Smoking for 93 years! Why, that would make him three years old when he started smoking! And once again, our hosts reveal their consideration for members of the audience who might have fallen behind because they were still frowning and counting on their fingers. Sidekick: He started smoking…Hornswaggle started smoking when he was three? Wow! See, aside from two-year-olds carping about not having any feet, the people who are complaining about not getting health insurance are all lifelong chain-smokers who began smoking at a freakishly young age. Beck: I’m bleeding from my eyes, ears, nose, and every other orifice, and for some reason I can’t get any health insurance, (goes into extended comic, (the skit ends with him plunging into an old-man-coughing fit.) Not only that, but they’re gross! I mean, an old person with stuff oozing out of him? The best political satire is said to hold up a sort of distorted mirror that emphasizes and clarifies certain truths. But playing with mirrors and light that way can be tricky. If you’re not careful, the reflection that’s bounced off the glass isn’t quite the one you intended. In this case the picture we get is of how Beck and his Sidekick apparently imagine themselves -- two men, not too old and not too young, who don’t talk funny, don’t cough, don’t have any humiliating medical conditions, and whose witty back and forth has a rapid snap that’s sure to leave any tubercular nonagarians or toddler double-amputees far behind them in the dust. Sunday, February 7. 2010How DARE Obama Root for the Underdog!“I guess I'm rooting a little bit for the Saints as the underdog partly just because when I think of what's happened in New Orleans over the last several years and how much that team means to them. You know, I'm pretty sympathetic.” Oh, for God’s sake. Now the fact that President Obama is rooting for the Saints in the Super Bowl is being touted by the folks at American Thinker as “this generations elevation of ‘victimology’” and a sign of an “anti-Capitalistic” bias. Certain sections of the Right Wing don’t just have a problem with empathy. They are completely unable to grasp it, and perceive any expression of it as a personal affront. Saturday, January 23. 2010South Carolina Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer Says We Should Stop Feeding Poor People, ‘Cause “They Breed.”"My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that. And so what you've got to do is you've got to curtail that type of behavior. They don't know any better," Bauer said. Damn straight! A few days without lunch will teach those kids that there are consequences to allowing their parents to take drugs and miss PTA meetings! Monday, January 18. 2010Scott Brown Feeds the BeastAudience Member: “Put a curling iron up her (Martha Coakley's) butt.” Sunday, January 3. 2010Because You Can Tell Someone's Religion Just By Looking At Them.…we have to use profiling. I mean, be very serious an harsh about the profiling. If you are an 18-28 year old Muslim man, then you should be strip-searched. Lt Gen Thomas McInerney U.S. Air Force [Retired], on Fox And presumably these Muslims will be identified with a nice big “M” stamped on their passports. Or maybe armbands with little yellow crescents sewn onto them… Wednesday, December 2. 2009Feeling That Christmas Spirit in HoustonIn a year when more families than ever have asked for help, several programs providing Christmas gifts for needy children require at least one member of the household to be a U.S. citizen. Others ask for proof of income or rely on churches and schools to suggest recipients. Houston Chonicle, 11/30/09 Some folks in Texas don’t think the children of illegal immigrants should even get charity. The explanation offered by Outreach Program Founder Lorugene Young is that they just want to make sure the parents become legal citizens. “It's not our desire to turn anyone down,” she says. “Those kids are not responsible if they are here illegally. It is the parents' responsibility.” Claiming it’s “not our desire to turn anyone down” while turning kids down is, to put it politely, crap. And it’s hard to come up with a nastier form of hypocrisy than pulling long faces about the plight of illegal immigrant children while attempting to use the pain of illegal immigrant children as leverage against their parents. Saturday, November 7. 2009G.O.P. Sez: "NAAAAAH-NAAAAH-NAAAAA We Can't HEAR YOUUUUUUU...I'd love to know the name of the G.O.P. lady joining in trying to shut the Democratic women up. Like it up there in that tree-house with the boys, do you sweetie? Monday, October 26. 2009Michelle Sez: How DARE David Axelrod Pretend To Love His Disabled Daughter!FLOTUS is playing the the concerned parent card. To understand the mentality of people like Michelle Malkin, you have to understand what “dehumanization” involves. In this case the notion that David Axelrod might be human enough to actually harbor love for his family, especially his child, is rejected out of hand. Malkin hastens to head off any fellow feeling her readers might develop for the Axelrods by assuring them that David Axelrod’s motives for appearing in a 60 Minutes segment on epilepsy could not possibly have anything to do with the heartbreak of his family’s personal experience with the disorder. So she approvingly quotes American Thinker’s Ann Kane, who says of Axelrod’s appearance on 60 Minutes: No matter what he says, even lovingly about family members, he will always be under suspicion for promoting a brand. That’s just the way it is with professional spinners. So, when the going gets tough for him and the White House, the tough create a soft news story. You see, it’s okay to mock David Axelrod’s acting all anguished and stuff over this daughter’s plight. He doesn’t really have feelings about it. Not like a human being would, anyway. Saturday, October 3. 2009The Nature of Right Wing "Patriotism"
Attendees at the Right Wing Americans for Prosperity "Defending the American Dream" Summit react to the news that Chicago's bid for the Olympics has been rebuffed.
“If anyone cares, Chicago is out!”high five.] I can understand not being thrilled with having the Olympics in Chicago. At least one Chicago friend of mine, impeccably liberal, was not happy with the idea. But cheering because an American city is not getting the Olympics? This, and the gloat-fest from Limbaugh and Beck answer the question: Is the right wing’s hatred for President Obama greater than its love for America? Decide for yourself: Wednesday, September 23. 2009Adventures in Queue-Jumping"He snucked up behind me grabbed my arms. I didn't even realize what was happening...I just saw the faces of the people in front of me before I realized I was in handcuffs," said Hofstra. So a Chicago cop arrested Lisa Hofstra, a nurse in charge of a hospital’s emergency room, during a busy shift and, as her lawyer puts it, “held her hostage” in his police car until the hospital performed a blood test he wanted on a drunk driving suspect. No doubt all those lay-abouts with head-wounds, broken limbs, and serious bleeding appreciated this monkey-wrench being thrown into the emergency room schedule. Hofstra is now suing the Chicago Police Department. It would be interesting to know a bit more of the background on this story. What kind of conversations, if any, took place between the police department and the hospital while they were holding Hofstra? Was the policeman involved reprimanded in any way? Even taken aside and told, “hey, don’t do this kind of thing,” by his superiors? Even the hard-core, law-and-order types at Free Republic are clucking their tongues and shaking their heads over this (with only one or two stating that Hofstra probably had it coming.) Does anybody out there, barring Chicago cops and Freepers who embarrass other Freepers, think arresting an emergency room nurse for following hospital procedures is a good idea? Monday, June 29. 2009UnconvincingOfficers arrived at the Rainbow Lounge to conduct the scheduled inspection. Some officers remained outside while some entered the club. While walking through the Rainbow Lounge, an extremely intoxicated patron made sexually explicit movements toward the police supervisor. This individual was arrested for public intoxication. Another intoxicated individual also made sexually explicit movements towards another officer and he was arrested for public intoxication. A third individual inside the lounge assaulted the TABC agent by grabbing the TABC agent's groin. He was escorted outside and arrested for public intoxication. Fort Worth Police statement on last weekend’s raid on a gay bar that put one bar patron in the ICU with a fractured skull. And of course, the first thing a gay man in Texas does when he sees a bunch of surly male cops is grope them. This sounds a lot some homophobic good ol’ boy’s paranoid nightmare about how gay men act. Wednesday, June 17. 2009Getting a Hate On” How dare he? When he has a bastard son! And a slut for a wife.” Protestor at the Fire David Letterman Rally Jonah Green’s video of the small protest yesterday in front of CBS studios reveals something anyone familiar with the far right already knows. This brouhahah over a Letterman joke is not about defending women and children. It’s about getting a nice hard hate on against a perceived liberal and his family. Tuesday, May 5. 2009You Can't Argue With a Bigot
Many years ago Mad Magazine had a funny feature called “You Can’t Argue With a Bigot.” It was a series of vignettes showing how bigots, confronted with something that contradicts an earlier prejudiced assumption, will simply shift their argument to fit the new circumstances. A bigot watching a ball game, for instance, first predicts that a black baseball player is going to choke at a crucial moment. “Those people” always do. Then he observes sagely, after the player has just hit a home run, that of course “those people” can run fast. It’s from living in the jungle and being chased by lions.
Today the Internet offers heightened ability to track this kind of idiocy. The recent tragedy in Texas, where a child visiting from Mexico died from Swine Flu, gave us all an opportunity to watch the racist assumptions unfold as information about the case came out. And while the comments section of the original Houston Chronicle story has a rich vein of racist venom about the child and his family (“Um, this sickly little kid is the first death to take place in the US, and he wasn't a US citizen. He was, already sick when he was, ahem, "visiting" family”) the most organized place for watching the shifting memes, of course, Free Republic. We begin on April 29th, with the article in the Houston Chronicle: The first reported death in the United States from the swine flu outbreak was that of a 23-month-old Mexico City boy who fell ill in Brownsville and was transported for treatment at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, where he died Monday, officials said. Annnnnd the good folks at Free Republic are on it, antennae quivering as they sense that something is just not right! FWIW, the anchorette on CNN bent over backwards not to ask the CDC guy they had on any questions about the toddler and/or her family. That kind of delicacy coming from the MSM automatically makes me suspicious. A sane poster at Free Republic (yes, they do exist,) points out: Wait, we don’t know if they were here illegally yet. People from Mexico can come into the US legally, too. But the first poster will have none of that! Does it matter? They were here to get medical help because the government run healthcare in Mexico is awful. A convenient promissory note is thus offered showing what the argument will be if the illegal alien thing doesn’t pan out. (There is, of course, nothing in the article to indicate that they had come to the United States for medical care.) For now, however, they are to be talked about as illegals until someone can prove otherwise: Most likely the child’s parents drove from somewhere in central Mexico and crossed the border at Matamoros/Brownsville and then claimed they were from Brownsville. Either way, I’m betting illegal. Who knows how many people they infected along the way. "23 MONTH OLD CHILD WAS VISITING FROM MEXICO per Fox news radio".." "When you go on a long trip, don't you stay a few decades? And even if the parents themselves aren’t illegals: "I bet there is an illegal alien connection; parents, family, caregiver, etc. But of course, they will be! The clever Freepers aren’t fooled by the obvious efforts of the press to sugar coat this ugly fact, and can only nod wisely and wait for the news to finally come out Wait for all hell to break loose when (and if) they preface “visitor” with the dreaded “U” word...which their lips will hardly be able to say....”Undocumented”. I doubt CNN would even have the balls. When and if that other shoe drops, zowie! watch out! I bet they are all quarantined and I bet they are illegal. Just because they were “visiting relatives” doesn’t make the relatives legal residents. "Three days of the family's whereabouts were missing in prior reports.” And even if they were here legally, they must be poor and certainly won’t be able to pay their hospital bill. I suppose it would be politically incorrect to ask who paid for endangering many hundreds of people. He and his family were not visiting. They came to exploit (steal from) the US health care system . That same thought came to my mind as well. I would like to see more info on his ‘trip’. (vacation, whatever) Then the news hits that, before the child showed symptoms, the family visited a mall. A savvy Freeper knows, of course, that they weren’t there to buy anything. More like shop-lifting...... While another hazards a guess at which mall: I'm guessing Gunspoint Mall. It's a tad, ahem, "urban". Whoops. It turns out to have been Galleria -- an upscale mall. The Freeper who first speculated they were shoplifting is undeterred: Last I checked, they weren’t demanding proof of income at the mall entrances. Could be they were high class shoplifters! Nor is the Freeper who was wrong about it being an “ahem, ‘urban’ mall:” The thing is, any nice public space invites human trash. The Galleria is very swanky, but the folks walking the mall are oftentimes of a low caliber. While another Freeper has doubts about whether the Galleria could possibly be upscale at all, given who was visiting it. That child and family were at Galleria Mall in Houston???? Gee, I always thought was an Upscale mall.......... how times have changed............ The Freeper who talked about Human trash reminds everyone: HIS (Illegal Alien) PARENTS BROUGHT HIM THERE. But by this time, it’s apparent that the family was here legally. This is pointed out to him, so the Freeper falls back on the “Mexican=poor and dirty deadbeats” assumption Lovely. Show up, spread a bit of disease, get some free healthcare... Finally, of course, the truth comes out in The Monitor. In Mexico City, senators from the Partido de la Revolución Democratica through the Milenio newspaper extended their condolences to the child's grandfather, media mogul Mario Vazquez Raña. Not only was the family here legally, but they are wealthy and influential. Which means, the image of impoverished, shoplifiting illegals now discredited, some Freepers must scramble for other insults to heap on the family for being Mexican. Like being irresponsible parents: That might explain why the family went shopping at the Galleria before moseying on over to the hospital. And not really being that rich at all! not like AMERICAN rich people: The phrase "tallest midget in the circus" comes to mind. LOL. May have been a somebody in Meh-hico, but not here bro... But of course, when all else fails, there is one dependable argument bound to crop up in Freeperland. It was OBAMA’S fault! If I remember correctly -—— the first reported ‘Swine Flu’ death in Mexico was the day after Obama’s trip to Mexico City. The person that died was a ‘high up’ or wealthy person and had met with Obama. Indeed it does. Friday, February 20. 2009More Adventures in Bottomfeeding: From the Patriots at Free Republic...
Take one part a sense of entitlement, two parts an extended period of power, 3 parts powerful people willing to pander and ½ part a new administration that threatens this hegemony and you have:
A grass-roots level, red hot mess of paranoid insanity bubbling higher and higher towards violence. The far right has been catered to for so long that a change of administration has completely unhinged a lot of them. Here are a few quotes from our patriotic friends at Free Republic in a thread about the best response to our “violent lurch into socialism.” Note the sheer number of Americans these people are looking forward to killing and/or “expelling” from the country. “Where can we join up to shoot liberals?”.... "The United States of America was created by the people ... who rose up against their standing oppressive government, and shot the bastards." I say let's get it on - sooner rather than later. Let's see the big, bad, scary gay, liberal, afraid of taking a single casualty, lacking discipline, pot smoking army come to Texas and suppress us. And in this civil war, the conservatives will be on the side of Liberty, the liberals on the side Karl Marx. That time has come again ... "The Federal Govt must be defeated and restored to the form our founders intended." The sooner the better. The more time the Usurper has, the worse it will be. I wonder how our military will react, obey the Usurper, or will a general have the balls to refuse? (which the constitution says he has to) I think it depends. Many of the Generals will probably resist, so they will be replaced by willing Generals. BTW the ones that need to be dealt with are those in the MSM propaganda machine who are foisting this imposter on us. Without them he is nothing. cities would have their water cut off, food cut off, power cut off, and city dwellers are not familiar with the country-side and fire arms so they will not fare well when venturing out. The vast majority of the military will not be on their side - I would guess they might have 35% willing. The RATS would be reduced to eating rats in short order, like sieges of old. The goal for us would be to be left alone and kick the liberals out. We do not want to win and then be forced to continue dealing with these people. I want to "vote them out of the country". Good riddance. The most likely scenario if things worsen is a military coup, a rule by martial law for a while, and a leader who wants to restore Constitutional law and will eventually step down or stand for election, not unlike George Washington. He will be the second Father of our Country. The bulk of the upper echelon officer corps are men of honor, not power grabbers – those are the politicians. Foreigners, Libtards, Dems: Round 'em up and ship 'em east on trains. Michigan is way to cool to lose to the Blues. Obama could never win a civil war as long as the people are armed. What he forgets is that we don’t have to go to war against the federal paramilitary force. We only have to take out their leaders. Kill a few hundred prominent ‘Rats and his dreams of a Marxist United States folds like a house of cards. Kill a few hundred prominent ‘Rats' we should just clean up the middle blue parts and kick out New England/West Coast/Upper midwest and move on. I might need a little help cleaning up the blue Texas counties along the Rio Grande. as soon as we clean up Houston, we’ll be down to help I got news for you... WE are going to “bury” HIM, and every SOB that thinks like him... right down to the last soul.
